My ancestor(s) were buried in a cemetery in what is now downtown Charleston. It seems that the cemetery was relocated to some other site in Charleston, SC. Is there anyone who can give me some information about this matter. The family name is SASPORTAS and they passed away in the town of Summerville, SC. Summerville is about 20 miles from Charleston. My great grandfather, Joseph Agustus Sasportas, was a Methodist minister and one of the founding fathers of Claflin College (now University). He died in 1897 and his body was brought from Summerville to Charleston for internment in this cemetery. The site of the cemetery is now apparently covered by a street. My grandfather, Charles Sasportas, also passed away in Summerville, SC and was probably interred in this downtown location. If you have any information please call collect, write or e-mail me soonest.
