Re: Washington Park Cemetery - St Louis

Hopefully, my original response is out there somewhere and will make its way into the system.....but, paraphrasing..

Scott Rimell gave an accurate presentation of the re-burial plan for the north side of Washington Park Cemetery. Hwy 70 splits it up.

I have greatgrandparents, maybe a grandfather, and several uncles and cousins and etc still there on the south side of Hwy 70.

I moved my greatgrandmother ( Carrie "Mama Carrie" Alexander-Franklin from the north side which was being re-done due to airport expansion. The St. Louis City Re-location/ Airport Authorities advertised its intent and offered a cost-free re-location to the cemetery of 'your choice'. I used the Beale Funeral Home to move "Mama Carrie" to 5 or 6 places from her grandson, my father, Clyde Lao LaGrone, Sr. at the St. Peters Cemetery.

However, I think more than 12 families have availed themselves of the re-location, which included a re-dedication ceremony, but no headstone.

If you contact either the St. Louis City Cemetery Office on Lindbergh Blvd., on Airport property, or call St. Louis City Hall for the number, the Cemetery Office has the names....easily found....laid out across a room on yellow paper and cards that used to be white. I noticed my great-grandfater Charles Leo LaGrone was buried on the south side.

If you contact the Beale Funeral Home, minority owned, in the 4600 or 4700 block of West Florissnt Ave., they would tell you of their services as well as which other companies and cemeteries accepted the job of re-location.

Let me know if I can help.
