A while since I was included in this . Below an extract from a letter from Robert Fairweather, he never returned to Scotland Berbice was Guyana, Berbice River flows into the Atlantic at New Amsterdam Letter addressed to Mr Geo Fairweather Jnr Pitdriodie, Near Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, Scotland. Plymouth 30th ???? 1839
Berbice West Indies January 26th 1839 My dear George I am happy to inform you of my safe arrival here about sixteen days ago after being at sea exactly 8 weeks. From the time we left the Downs having been detained there for a few days. I as usual had a severe attack of sea sickness which continued for nearly 10 days but after that I quite recovered and enjoyed good health during the rest of the voyage; We have had very fairweather that is to say very fine weather all the time with the exception of about 8 days we were then rocking about in the Bay of Biscay. One of the most dangerous bays in the Atlantic Ocean and during all that time it blew a complete hurricane. So much so that I really thought the ship would have gone down every minute but thank God we at last weathered the storm after a great deal of anxiety and perseverance on our own part and on the ninth day the sea in comparison to the former was a complete calm and during the rest of the voyage the weather continued the finest I ever saw. Anyone related to him? Messages In This Thread
