That being said, yes indeed, we're back from St. Croix and had a wonderful time. My guardian angel saw to it that I met Ricki Marshall at Christiansted's Florence Williams Public Library and Ricki knows the island and its history and where all the records are. We ended up in the Library/Archive at the Estate Whim, where I would have been for days upon days without Ricki's thoughtful and generous guidance.

So that's probably the best place to go to do genealogical research on St. Croix, as they have church records, including baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and deaths, and census records and all kinds of other records that I probably haven't dreamt of consulting yet. We found lots of things about my wife's ancestors, which is the line I've been researching. The primary family names are Diguizen, Christenson/Christensen and McCabe. There are other St. Croix lines to be followed, but I'm just not ready yet.

It helps to have really gone over the censuses, both U.S. and Danish, pretty closely first. The U.S. conducted a census right after the transfer in 1917, so if you search at ancestry.com, you can search that one. There are also links to the censuses that the Danes conducted while St. Croix was a Danish colony.
