Hello,
I'm trying to track the origin of John Bunch, born about 1634, arrived in Lancaster County, Virginia about 1651, headright claimed there March of 1656. Probably the same John Bunch acquired 450 acres of land in New Kent County in 1662, probably near the Chickahominy River. He was likely my ancestor, and if so then he was probably black or mulatto according to my y-DNA. Family tradition is that he came from Scotland, but given the circumstances the West Indies seem a more likely point of origin.
There is mention of an Edward Bunch, joiner, in a 1661 Barbadian will for Richard Russin, and of a Solomon Bunch as witness to a 1708 Barbadian will for Daniel McConoline, so there appear to have been Bunches in the area around that timeframe. I wonder if there is anyone who visits this forum who may be knowledgeable either about Bunches in Barbados specifically, or about sources for research generally. Any help you can lend would be greatly appreciated.
