In Response To: [HAITI] Haitian Immigration: American East Coast
(K Wyer Lane) Thanks for the link. During the past 5yrs I have had 'spirited-discussions' with one of the other forum manager's regarding the existence of the FPC from Hispaniola in South-Side VA, and upper NC. While some of my FPC lines appear in the early VA colony; many of my other FPC lines seem to appear out of nowhere. Our oral history is that the latter were "largely from the West Indies". Reportedly many of my lines around Greensville County, VA and Northampton County, NC still spoke Spanish until the early 1900's. Lastly, per a researcher at the NC Archive, there was also a smaller number of Puerto Ricans in the same area along the VA/NC border. I would believe the FPC from the West Indies would have been required to register as such in VA/NC/SC as did other FPCs stemming from the VA colony. Have you seen a such as registry for the West Indies lines? Perhaps, naturalization records? L Moody Messages In This Thread
