St. Domingo to Virginia - Early Immigrants

Gleanings from the "Register of Free Negroes & Mulattos, 1794-1819" show several persons born on St. Domingo who registered in Petersburg, VA. Most of the Free Persons of Color named were born in VA, but these 3 were from St. Domingo:

7 Apr 1794 #5, Israel CONDRE (DE CONDRAY), a light Mulatto Man Thirty years old Five & a half feet high stout made...born on the Island of St. Domingo at Port O Prince came into the State of Virginia from Bristol in England as a free man in the year 1783. renewed 13 June 1810, 23 July 1822.

24 Nov 1806 #402, Casime CARTEGNE, a light brown free Mulatto man, five feet eight inches high, twenty four years old, born free on the island of Domingo.

3 July 1810 #630, Elizabeth ALLERQUE, a light colored Mulatto woman, free born, forty years old, born on the Island of St. Domingo.
