I have recently discovered through interviewing some olde relatives that my great great grandfather was a slave. His name is Ramon Forgas Rodriguez and he appears on the 1910 and 1920 census as living in Rio Canas abajo, Juana Diaz, PR. He was born in 1835 and he fathered my great grandmother at the age of 63 in 1898. According to what I've been told, he was a slave and that his owner was a spaniard who fled to spain and left him with all the land he owned, where in which my grandfather currently lives. His race is listed as mulato. I just recently ordered the microfilm from NARA with the slave listings. I hope to find his name and be able to confirm this.
