Slave Ship Records/Insurance (Re-Post)
Many thanks to Zainab Ghani-Shareef (ZaNabisco@aol.com) for her post to the AfriGeneas Mail List on Fri., May 31, 2002, re-posted here with her permission for your use.
This is Part II of Zainab's post, which relates to a query which I posted to the List some time ago (years before the recent news of American companies' slave insurance policies) regarding the possibility of such records for Lloyds of London. I had heard rumors that such records existed, and that there was a book about them. I actually wrote to Lloyds requesting information, but they responded that they had no knowledge of it. If anyone is interested in following up, perhaps one of the sites Zainab mentions in her post may have something.
Also to answer a query that was posted many moons ago about Lloyds of London. The history, its records of its ships and cargoes are all spread again in the United Kingdom. One site would be to check - www.nmm.ac.uk - and the Public Record Office - www.pro.gov.uk - the books, also other references of books, and guides to further your search.
