British West Indies Military Site
Ran across this GREAT site while surfing! It has many, many links and a huge amount of information, should your ancestor have been a member of the military connected to the islands of the British West Indies, at any time.
Hubby's father was in "The Great War", but I have never been able to get any hard facts about it (besides the photo I have of him in uniform). He had immigrated from Barbados to NY in 1913 (via Ellis Island). Family tradition says he somehow joined the British (or Canadian) army in NY, and went to Canada for training... the next thing I have on him is his return from Southampton, England in 1919 (via Ellis Island), with his ticket paid for by the British gov'ment.
I have been told that resident aliens were not allowed to register on "our" WWI draft applic's, so not to bother looking for him there. Now I have lots of reading to do at this site, and all the other places I can link to from it... maybe, once he arrived in England, he was put with the British West Indies Regiment from "home"... maybe I will find a clue in here somewhere, or receive a response to my query, and be able to learn a little about his unit and service. I'm a happy camper!
Try it... think you'll like it too.
