Re: [JAMAICA] HAMILTON from Manchester, Jamaica
In Response To: [JAMAICA] HAMILTON from Manchester, Jamaica ()
Greetings to all,
I too live in Canada, Hamilton, ON specifically, and am trying to trace my geneology. My father is Michael Joseph Hamilton. His birth name was originally Menocal, he changes it to michael later in life. He currently lives in Mandeville, Jamaica. His mother was Perl Bartley. Bartley is the name of the last man she had married. I don't know the family name of my father's biological father. Hamilton is the name of one of my grandmother's (Pearl's) former husbands who died. My father kept his last name because he said that man treated him more like a father than his own.
My father has a brother Manley, and three sisters Norma ("Blossom"), Rose and Gloria who are all also here in Hamilton, ON. Blossom, Rose and Gloria all use their married names, otherwise, they would use the last name Bartley. My father has another brother Erol who is a paster in Alberta, and another brother Junior in England.
I'm looking for any connection to my late grandfather with the name Hamilton, and working my way backwards in time. Including any information about a possible Hamilton Plantation in Jamaica that had slaves, perhaps even connected to a Frederick William Hamilton in the 1800's.
For a while, my father was married to my mother Mildred Joyce Perry. She's currently in Port Maria, Jamaica--her native parish, and has family there and in Florida. I am also looking for any ties to the Perry name, and working backward.
Does any of this sound familiar to any of you? Could we be related? Do you have any information that may help me trace my roots?
