My guess would be that "today's" African-Americans and Jamaicans have a few different ingredients.

If you look at the current generation of Jamaicans, they're likely to be mixed with the genes of Africans, East Indians, Chinese, and in a small part, Whites and Arawaks (from what may still exist of them).

African-Americans will have a different mixture... for instance, they're probably blended a lot more heavily with Native American Indians, as well as Whites. Not so much East Indians though, nor Chinese.

BTW, I found this thread while attempting to do some similar personal research. I'd like to know what part of Africa that Jamaicans (and other West-Indians) originate from. I'm guessing (based on features) that it would be an area on the western part of the continent... like Ghana or Nigeria. I'd just like some confirmation and supporting documentation if possible.
