Re: Black-Mexico and Black-Mexicans

Well, I do not know if you can tell by my name but I AM an african descendent in Mexixo!
My father is from Nigeria and my mother is mexican. I have always considered this as an odd combination.

First of all, I would like to say that I am impressed to have found this site and another one by Bobby Vaughn about the african population in Mexico.

I have always "tried to deal with" my identity and to find myself a place in this society. I was aware of the black population that existed in Mexico in the southern part, Guerrero, and the southeast, Veracruz. But never payed much importance to that fact.

Lately, I have noticed a major migration of africans to this country. People from Congo, Nigeria,Ethiopia and other african countries.
They, or rather, we are still a minority, but I still do not see any attempt to congregate or talk about our identity and the role we play in this country.
