[JAMAICA] Disappointed with Registrar General's Dept.
Jamaica Researchers, Be forewarned. I sent this email to the Registrar General's Department today. http://www.rgd.gov.jm/genealogy/genealogical_research.htm To Whom It May Concern: I contracted with your office back in July 2004 while you were on a goodwill tour of the US. I paid $200 US for research and also provided documentation as a starting point. I heard nothing from anyone after that. In Feb 2005 I suddenly remembered and contacted your office by email. A Mrs. Rhonette Pitter responded with an apology and proceeded to conduct the requested research. The last time I heard from Mrs. Pitter was by email on Feb 18, 2005. I responded making a specific request for further research. That was over two months ago and, again, I have heard nothing despite several follow-up emails to Mrs. Pitter requesting status. In her Feb 18th email, Ms. Pitter indicated that 4 hours were spent on research. In the previous email she indicated 1 hour's research. That amounts to a total of five hours spent if I'm correct. According to your website, research fees are $10/hr US. That means that I have $150.00 unspent. Sir or Madam, I must say that I am very disappointed with your service and that is an understatement. For all the time that this has taken, I could have ordered microfilm at $3 US apiece through the LDS Church and done the research myself for a lot less money. As I no longer want to do business with you, I am requesting the IMMEDIATE refund of $150.00 US by money order made payable to the following: (PRIVATE) BTW, I run a the largest website devoted to African-American genealogy ( www.afrigeneas.com ). I am going to inform my visitors of my experience and warn them to steer clear. Thank you. Brenda J. Smothers
