Re: [CARIB] looking for familly binns
In Response To: [CARIB] looking for familly binns ()
My understanding is that the name Binns as well as all of the other names of European origin that people of Afrikan ancestry bear are ALL without exception slave names. If you know the history of slavery and how slaves were captured, branded, treated, sold at auction, and christianized then this should come as no surpris to you.
One of the primary practices during slavery times was to capture and dehumanize a person of African ancestry by stripping him/her of language, culture, traditional practices and any trace of his/her previous connection to the Afrikan continent. Most women during this era were brutally raped and beaten and ended up pregnant with children of the European colonizers through this process.
