Greetings:
I found an interesting directory and advice on how find your Caribbean ancestors on the BBC website.
"Caribbean Family History" authored by Kathy Chater underscores the importance of knowing Caribbean history in our research. She writes "The different Caribbean islands developed in different ways, depending on which country controlled them and what crops individual islands were best suited to producing. The European powers were almost permanently at war with each other, and the territories of the Caribbean were often involved, sometimes changing hands."
All people of Afro-Caribbean ancestry, on both sides of the Gulf of Mexico will find her words and research invaluable. If your ancestors like mine spoke Spanish and French don't dispair, there's a lot to be learned from Chater. Don't forget to click on the suggested.
Enjoy,
K Wyer Lane
