Very interesting. For years I had been corresponding with a woman whose ancestor William B. Shields of Dallas County, AL freed and took his mulatto children to Matamoros, Mexico in the 1850s. But not aware there's any connection between her Shields family and the Black Seminole scout. On a side note, I traveled to Mexico in the 1970s and visited towns in Guerrero State including one called Cuajinicuilapa. Take a look at the fotos here and see the legacy of Africa in the region.
