In Response To: Re: [PUERTO RICO] Gomez geneology San Juan Puerto Rico ()
thanks for telling me about the puerto rican census of 1899-1900. Daisy(celestina) would be eleven years old in 1899 and twelve years old in 1900, for she was born may 19, 1888. i do not know if she was born in san juan proper or san juan barrio, ellis island records, says only san juan, and this is on another record. i dont have the birth record, and unfortunately i do not live in puerto rico to retrieve it. She was pobre(poor) so perhaps she lived in the barrio. the only known child of Daisy is a daughter name vera who mysteriously dissappears, she was born in america, i have her record. on the census of 1910 two children appear name luciel and arthur. luciel was born two months after vera, which is impossible, so this must not be daisy's children and there is no record of daisys given birth to these children. daisy didnt speak english, so somebody was given the census recorder information and it sure was'nt daisy! Daisys mother was celestina Guillermo, however, this may or maynot be true. Only, daisy's birth record with her parents name on it could clear up this matter and i have to investigate whether puerto rican birth records go back that far. hopefully the 1899-1900 census and the birth record with mother and father's name would be a valuable research tool as the census would tell me the names and members of the house and birth records will show the two surnames and daisy's mother and father's name. thanks again for the information and God bless.
