After all this time I've gotten a breakthrough o my third great grandfather. I show him in Charleston, SC in 1822-1833. There are baptismal records for his children as well as for godchildren in the 1820's. He shows up again in the 1830 Free Negro Owners of Slave Census. Finally, I have a deed showing he bought two of his older children, which would have brought the total number of slaves to 7, but they were all family members. The latest breakthrough was on Monday where I learned that he died in 1834. That gives me something specific to research with the Archives of the Archdiocese of Charleston, SC. The bonus was that the page also showed another Lacombe I was not familiar with. She was born in 1772, and was old enough to have been his mother since his estimated DOB is 1805. Even if she's another relative, it's more than I had before. Merry Christmas to me!!!
