Re: [HAITI] Haiti Sun Newspaper
In Response To: Re: [HAITI] Haiti Sun Newspaper ()
It's important that we read the reports on our heritage and culture from foreign sources.
So on October 1, 1950 The Sun of Haiti reported that the grandson of an American slave was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his tireless work in bringing peace to the Middle East.
The reporter's words still ring of history and irony. Decades later the US elected its first black president. Half a decade later, President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. His award was based on his leadership in trying to bring an end to the conflict in the Middle East and his efforts to prevent nuclear proliferation and climate change.
Not just American newspapers record our history. The article reminded me that there were two black men who worked to end the problems in the Middle East. As a nation we are criticized as villains by the hate filled terrorists. They blame us for all the ills in their country. It’s a comfort to remember that there were two black men who tried to bring peace not conflict to the Middle East.
Haiti remembered one of them.
Thanks again for your encouraging words, Vicky.
