Re: [JAMAICA] Afr Americans & West Indians: The Ti

Louis,

I do remember. I also remember you were going to share the research you did that documents your free ancestors who migrated from the islands to the colonial States, and confirmed that they came from the islands. That black people came from the islands is not a surprise, as there were many who were brought as slaves from Haiti and other french speaking islands to Louisiana. Blacks, particularly in the Puerto Rican cities of Guayama and Loiza Aldea make up a sizable population of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, so the idea that they came to the States at some point is not far fetched, as they continue to do so. They are still of African descent, in fact many of the blacks in Puerto Rico and the rest of the Hispaniolas are descendants of the Wolofe of Africa and were brought as slaves to the islands by the Spanish in the same way that the Portugese took African slaves to Brazil. Nationality is not the same as race. Trust me black people were in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Barbados and Brazil long before they migrated to the States, as those were places that slavery existed.

But, in order for Heinegg and others to take cognizance of your ancestors, you will have to establish what you are saying with documentary evidence of it, and that none of us has seen yet. As I told you before, I welcome the opportunity to view your research.
