Hello Alva:
I'm sure that the Caribbean Researchers along with the AfriGeneas Family will enjoy reading and searching the archived newspapers at the link below.
Kudos to The University of Florida and its partner institutions for their collaboration in presenting The Digital Newspaper Library, that includes the Caribbean Collection.
The newspapers are from Jamaica, Trinidad, Haiti, Dominca, Bermuda (yes I know it is on the Atlantic...LOL) Virgin Islands, Cuba-Exiles to name a few. The newspapers date back to colonial eras and forward to the 20th century.
The "Unite" is a Haitian newspaper whose first issue celebrates American independence. It reminds us that Haitians were part of US history and includes Haitian Jean Baptiste DuSable who founded Chicago. Please note that if your French is rusty, the table of contents and drop down menu is in English....Along with a lot of trade propaganda..LOL
It also includes a link to "The Digital Library of the Caribbean."
Please click on the link below. At the top of the page is a button that says "ALL ITEMS". It will list all the newspapers. You can search within the newspaper once you've selected an issue.
Enjoy. And a big thanks to the staff at the University of Florida's Digital Collections.

PS: Alva, I've noticed that many of the queries from posters can readily be answered by doing a search of the AfriGeneas Caribbean Forum. Census records, news articles, slave records and archives of Caribbean nations are a click away.
After all, AfriGeneas is the Internet's beacon to the history and genealogy of Africans in the Americas.
