actually, you have not reached a brick wall yet, there are clues. the first clue is that james carty, traveled a lot, thus he is on a ship manifest and has a passenger record, and thats the most important clue of all. you said he traveled the world, sounds like he worked on a ship and was part of the ships crew, or he could have been a merchant. next, james carty was born 1880. thus, we can deduct his age back to 1880 on ships manifest. Question, was james carty, a blackman, a whiteman? if he was white, was he irish? and what country was he born in? give me this information and i can begin to research ships manifest for you,his ethnicity age, ect. is on the ships manifest. was his birth name carty or richardson, and did he use these names interchangeable, and what was his wifes name, just in case his wifes name is on the ships manifest, these are identifiers, being that other people are also named james carty. since he traveled, he might have came to america at some point, go to www.ellisisland.com. also, go to www.castle clinton.org, furthermore, there are lots more ships manifest i can check for you at other ports, so, post me back and give me the information i asked for, and then i can begin the research if you want me to.
