Hi! I've been doing some heavy searching for my g. grandfather. I'm pretty much stuck because I only have one last name and can't find his parents anywhere.
Here's some info about him:
Pablo Marrero
b. 2 Feb 1892 or 1893
Also known as Pedro Pablo Marrero (1917 war reg. card)
He was from Santurcé, born in Toa Alta (according to passenger list to NY)
1910 census says he was at the Santurcé Boy's Charity School.
He looked Black and was listed as Mulatto, Black, and even White depending on the source. (!)
I suspect he was the son of a freed slave, but that's unsubstantiated. I do know that when he married my g. grandmother, her family wasn't happy! They were middle class (and lighter skinned) and he was poor and family-less.
He emigrated to NY with his daughter Ana Socorro and wife Carmen Miranda around 1925 and died around 1933.
Any information you think might be remotely helpful would be wonderful. Thank you so much!
