tThe surname workman derived from the northermostpart island region of scotland in the orkneys(orkney is in the language gaelic,pronounced insi orc, meaning, island of wild pigs) the land was also called pictish, controlled bt vikings in the 9th century. the surname workman has several variations of spellings, workman, wortman, wartman, wergman, wirgman and others, workman's from scotland immigrated to america in the mid 1600's.------blacks with the surname of workman from barbados:Ellick workman, african black-ship:amazonia port of departure:para, arrived in new york at may 29, 1915, age 38, relative in barbados name martin,ellick was sick on the ship was hospitalized then discharged.-----------------------------------------------next is:dudley workman, ethnicity, barbados, african black, employed on the ship:parima, as a crew member, employed as a coal passer, ethnicity, african black, 5 feet8 160 pounds, port of departure georgetown and westindian ports, arrived in new york jun, 9, 1919, dudley was back and forth to the newyork ports because he worked on the ship. thus, on dec 10, 1919-1920, he arrived in new york working with other crew members. --------ellisisland.org records Messages In This Thread
