This morning I contacted the RGD in St. Catherine in hopes of getting information on how to get a copy of my birth certificate by express service. I started calling the office at app. 9:15 am. At about 9:30 a young lady answered and said she would connect me to Customer Service. Fifteen minutes later I was still waiting. Apparently what happened was this: She put the phone down and continued her conversation with her colleagues. In the most raucous Jamaican they discussed everything from one worker's need to find a husband to another's inclination to act like she was too "dainty" - a habit that was evidently preventing her from demanding exactly what she wanted. No one ever picked up the phone. I ended up hanging up. I tried to fax information only to be met with constant busy signals. I kept calling. Finally, at about 11:30 am I managed to get through to someone who was not helpful. So much for trying to get anything from there. And we wonder why Jamaica is in the pitiful state that it has been in for decades now?
