Re: Jamaica's Island Record Office
In Response To: Jamaica's Island Record Office ()

I am trying to trace my grandfather and possibly grandmother too.
All I know about him is his surname: HAMILTON. His first name could be Richard or George. He was from Scotland and worked on a plantation where he met my grandmother. He was some sort of overseer. They had a child out of wedlock (my father), who was born 1899 in Port Royal I believe. I have no imformation about my grandmother apart from she was from India and worked on the same plantation as my grandfather. She came to Jamaica with her family (who disowned her when she became pregnant). She died in a Almshouse and my father was adopted. Her death occurred after an earthquake which I think happened around 1903 - 1904.
