VERY IMPORTANT
Census Day in Canada is Tuesday, May 10. You should be receiving the information brochure in the mail this week. It provides information from Statistics Canada concerning going on-line and filling out your information. They also provide information concerning how to order a paper form over the telephone if you do not want to fill out the information on-line.
Regardless of the method you use to provide your information, please remember to check the "YES" box for the question that will allow your information to be released to the public in 92 years. If you don't check the "YES" box, Statistics Canada will consider that you have said "NO" and your information will not be available to people in the future. Remember how you feel when you are looking for people in a census and can't find them. In 92 years it could be because you didn't check the correct box and the people looking for a record of you will be out of luck.
Don't do this to them - Check the "YES" box!
Please do three other things for all the future genealogists
1. Tell your friends and neighbours to check the "YES" box too.
2. Make a copy of your form before you submit it and keep it for your family to have in the future.
3. When the question was introduced by Bill S-18, there was a condition in the Bill that required a committee review of this point at least two years before the 2016 census. This review needs to be done now so we can insure that the question is not included in any future census. Tell your M.P. that you want that review to happen now and you want the question removed!
