Poor Census Images 1901-1911 on Ancestry.ca
Ancestry.ca (the Canadian version of Ancestry.com) has had the complete 1901 and 1911 Canadian Census online for quite some time. Though this includes all the images and is fully searchable, some of the images, quite honestly, just aren't very good. An easy (and free) work around to dealing with "too light to read" images on Ancestry is to view the images on Automated Genealogy
Three things to keep in mind:
2) THAT SAID, it's best to make note of the ED and page number on Ancestry.ca, then simply BROWSE to the same page on Automated Genealogy. 3) If the image on Automated Genealogy isn't a whole lot better than the one on Ancestry and you still cannot read what's on a particular line, take a look Automated Genealogy's transcription, which can give you a better idea of what that line actually says. Good luck in your search and let me know if you have any problems with this. - Lisa B. Lee
