This is just a reminder that the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) has placed online a fully searchable and FREE database of the entire 1881 Canadian Census, complete with images.
A FEW TIPS:
1) Blacks are most often listed as "African" for their ethnic origin and feel free to use this as a search option;
2) This Web site accepts wild card searches using an asterisk (*) so feel free to use it.
3) Once you get your search result, you can view the page either as a PDF or as a JPEG. I recommend you use a PDF. You won't have to download it to your hard drive (so it won't eat up your hard drive space) and you can enlarge it as much as 6400%! For these old eyes, being able to enlarge the image to about 200% is a godsend. You do NOT have an enlargement option if viewed as a JPEG.
4) If you view it as a JPEG or PDF you can save the image onto your computer or print it out on your home printer.
Good luck in your research.
