My great grandparents were born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. They immigrated to Boston, MA, in 1888. I found them on the US Census Report from 1900-1930. I believe that I have found them, surnames Carter & Turner on the 1881 Canadian Census. If these are my ancestors on the 1881 Canadian Census, it has given the earliest date of a family member, 1820. I have found the surnames on the "Book of Negroes", "The Halifax List" and the "African-American Loyalists in the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution". My great great grandfather's name was Samuel Turner. I have the Naturalization Paper, 1920, for my great grandfather, John Henry Carter. Marguerite Turner was his wife. Her maiden name was Turner and her father, my great great grandfather's name was Samuel Turner. Have copies of both of my great grandparents death certificates. Both were born in the 1860's. I have a copy of an old lapsed insurance policy, which was my grandfather's and the application lists my great great grandmother as being 89 years old and alive. It does not list where she was living at the time or her name. This old policy dates early 1900's. Have United States documents and photos from the late 19th C.

How do I confirm if the families on the 1881 Canadian Census are my ancestors, which it definately appears to be them. All of the dates match.
How can I confirm if my ancestors were Black Loyalists?
How can I find out where my ancestors came from, such as here in America, when the British relocated the former slaves to Nova Scotia, being that my great grandparents were already located in Nova Scotia in the mid-19th C.

I am at a stumbling block and thought that I would try here. HELP! Any suggestions and information will be appreciated.
