148th Emancipation Festival - Owen Sound
Please come join me, next week, as we celebrate the 148th celebration of the Emancipation of slaves in Canada. As you already know, Canada abolished slavery in 1834 and this celebration in Owen Sound, has been held, continuously, for the past 148 years. Attracting a very diverse population of celebrants, the weekend of July 30 - August 1, 2010 will present a number of events you'll not want to miss.
The Grey Roots Museum and Archives will hold a Speaker's Forum in Friday, July 30th, followed by the all-day picnic at Harrison Park in Owen Sound, the following day. I'll be participating in the Speaker's Forum and will provide a new feature where you can "Book a Genealogist," for a 30-minute consultation, and get help on researching your own family's ancestry.
Many of my ancestors settled in Owen Sound and nearby Collingwood, Ontario, so this celebration holds special significance for me.
