FPOC in "British Canada" btw. 1855-1867
I am researching the Harrison Family, FPOC, in White County, Illinois from 1830 to the present.
After the death of Drewry Harrison, the father, his widow and three of her nine adult children and their families migrated to Lafayette, Tippecanoe, Indiana. They appear there on the 1860 Federal census. They may have been fleeing the threat of kidnapping by Southern slave catchers.
Henry Harrison, (35) oldest son
Susan Harrison, (60) the Matriarch
William Harrison, (30) with wife and son
Minerva Harrison (40)
William Hardin (13) Grandson
Lucretia Hardin (11) Granddaughter
On the 1870 federal census, the family has returned to White County, Illinois with three sons, who were born in "English Canada" to William Harrison and his wife Angelique. The matriarch, Susan, has died.
I have never done any Canadian research.
What resources can I use to determine where they lived in Canada and how long they stayed?
Any guidance will be appreciated.
Thank You.
