Re: WAS NEW CANAAN REAL? BLACK SETTLEMENT IN ONTAR

:\ I don't know for sure how much of this is true, but, that said, there is an old family story that has at least some truth in it that I have been able to verify. I am almost 70 and trying to pass any info to my children. My grandfather was born in New Canaan.(true) He was half African American(likely) and half Native Canadian (Huron)(true). He was a fiddler and played at the local weddings, dances and such (true). He married my grandmother whose father owned a farm (true). Her father hid runaway slaves from U.S. under the floor of his barn during the day until they could move to the next stop in Harrow during the night.(possible?)
I heard these stories many times when I was young, but now my aunts and uncles are gone and only my father is left and he is in his 90's and doesn't remember much. Anyone who can add to or verify this info would be very much appreciated.
