Re: Champlain Society - Digital Collection (FREE)
In Response To: Champlain Society - Digital Collection (FREE) ()
I can only say thanks and WOW!!!
I searched for the names of individuals who 'took' some of my ancestors to Canada following the British & Indian raid on Martin's Station, Ky.....found all of them....Jacques Duperon Baby, Matthew Elliott, Simon Girty and in particular Alexander McKee.
Below is the URL to a transcribed interview of my 4th great-grandmother, Rachel Reno, whose mother, Candis, was taken by Alexander McKee to Canada. The interviewer is Lyman C. Draper of the Draper Manuscripts and the interview took place ca 1863.
The interview states "facts' found in the Digital Collection. ......McKee was gored by a pet deer and died from Lockjaw. Chief BlueJacket had a son name George. This son is listed as an Indian Interpeter several times in the Collection. And there is more, many more citations along with a Memorial to Alexander McKee.
Let me stop here and get back to searching and reading. Thanks ever so much for posting this great resource.
