I had an membership for a few months and at the time didn't find it helpful. I was able to retrieve marriage records for many family members, burial transcriptions, etc for free online so I cancelled and am now just using the basics so I can continue building/ working on my tree. I am originally from Chatham (now living in Kitchener) so I have some access to information that many people researching may not (oral history, my Gwen Robinson who I love to pieces, old newspapers via library where my mom works, etc) but as mentioned before when people migrated back to the USA continued contact was not maintained and its those folks I would like to connect with so I can hear thier stories and maybe find out where everyone originated from and if there are more Lucas's out there that stayed put and never came to Canada. Another problem is the secretive nature of fugitive slaves in Canada at the time, no one ever spoke of thier experiences or family or state of origin for fear of being returned.

I did have the information about Jefferson's (my great great grandfathers 1st cousin) marriage to widow Minnie Thurman, and the marriage of his father Austin to Eliza VanDyke, and his brother William's marriage to Mary Richardson along with his brother Horace's second marriage to Julia Harris, Willam. I didn't have anything regarding deaths and for that MANY MANY THANKS!!!!!!!

I also have almost all the census records of these folks with birthdates for some (which changed a bit over time).

Someday soon when I am rolling in the dollars (hey it can happen) I will pursue my search financially with requesting birth and death records, professional searches, etc. Hopefully then I can correct any inaccuracies in my tree and finally connect to long lost relatives.

ps. Do you know how to access information about Electa Chapter of the Eastern Star? Both my grandmother (Hattie Mae Lucas Jackson) and great grandmother (Effie Lavina Lee Jackson) were members.
