Thanks for posting this good article. I'm glad the author mentioned Peter Martin who has been overlooked in Canadian history. Not only was he a catalyst in the creation of anti-slavery legislation through his presentation to Simcoe but he also fought as a uniformed officer with the unbeatable Butler's Rangers, was captured by the Americans, sold into slavery, then escaped to join up with the Rangers again. Despite the British being less than generous with land grants to African Canadians, he eventually acquired 300 acres.
