Governor General Michaëlle Jean opens Diaspora Center
![]() Greetings Canadian and African Disaspora Researchers: Canada’s Governor General Michaëlle Jean, a woman of color, announced in March that the Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on the Global Migrations of African will open "to mark the 200th anniversary of the British abolition of the slave trade." The Harriet Tubman Institute is not centered on the UNGRR nor Tubman. Instead, it documents the global African Diaspora, touching on histories from Africa to the Caibbean and South America. Its research will jolt the narrowly focused American memory and remind us that the African Diaspora is not the exclusive cultural property of the US. That's why the Harriet Tubman Institute is one of my favorite websites. The institute has been offering on-line databases and research for the last few years. You'll find several of my postings and links about this acclaimed institute. Please click on the link below to find out more about the Harriet Tubman Institute. And then, please click on "international symposium" in the body of this announcement and begin your research. Or if you need to be shown the way, click on this for areas of study: http://www.yorku.ca/nhp/areas.htm Enjoy! K Wyer Lane
