Re: Slavery in Canada
In Response To: Re: Slavery in Canada ()
Elyse; We feel you. But in all fairness, if it were easy, would folks appreciate the stories as much? Sometimes, the most difficult tasks are the most rewarding. And in the case of Canadian Slavery, these stories deserve to be told. Too often, white Canadians tend to dismiss the 200 years that blacks were enslaved in Canada because the total number of Canadian slaves was far less than that of U.S. slaves. So does that mean that the lives of the Canadian slaves were in any way less valuable? Don't their stories also deserve to be heard? In my opinion, even ONE slave is too many. In this day and age when we seem to place so little value on human life, it is my hope that those who have already perished will not be forgotten, as tough as it may be to recount their lives. It's worth the trouble, my dear. Worth every bit of the trouble. All the best in your research. - Lisa B. Lee, PLCGS
