Further posting re New Canaan. Lois Sweet states that McGregor was "three miles (5km) down the road" from New Canaan. McGregor is just south of Windsor, Ontario. She doesn't say in which direction the road was "down," but Essex, ON isn't far away. Perhaps that includes what used to be New Canaan. Contacting the Windsor or Essex Chambers of Commerce might bring more accurate bearings.
