The Library and Archives of Canada (LAC) has posted digital images of the 1851 Canadian census online on their website: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/1851/index-e.html.

There is NO searchable index by name, but you can search by location and browse through each page.

This is a FREE service and includes Canada East (Quebec), Canada West (Ontario), New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Keep in mind that when the LAC first offered the 1901 and 1911 census images online, they too had no name index, but automatedgenealogy.com, with an all-volunteer force, quickly started creating an index. We can only hope that automated genealogy will do the same for the 1851 census.
