Re: African Nova Scotians - online exhibit
In Response To: African Nova Scotians - online exhibit ()
Thanks for the link to African Nova Scotians. Their history is an important chronicle in North American history. I have always been curious about the connection between Nova Scotia and the Caribbean after seeing the film "Adele H".
You may remember that Adele H was the daughter of the France's literary giant, Victor Hugo. When Adele left Halifax and followed her ex lover to Barbados, she was sheltered by a black woman named Madame Celine Alvarez Baa.
Caribbean writer, Selwyn Cudjoe wrote about this mysterious woman. She didn't have a direct connection to Nova Scotia from what I've read. Her name, Alvarez Baa is also fascinating. Have you ever come across this name?
Below is the link to Cudjoe's essay.
