According to our family records, my great grandfather, Frank Marion Thurman and family settled in New Canaan in 1851 or 1852 when he was 6 months old. The family fled from Indiana due to the Fugitive Slave Law. According to our records, Frank Thurman moved in with a Rev. Cyrus Hill so he could receive tutoring and instruction in a trade when he was 15 years of age.
