Janice;

I share your feelings about "Good Thing." I enjoyed it but it had little to do with my family as well.

I might suggest you take a look at the British Columbia Genealogical Society's webpage (http://www.bcgs.ca/), which has tons of information that may be of interest to you.

Any chance you're looking for information about those black families who left San Francisco about 1860 and went to British Columbia?

British Columbia vital records began in 1872, so if this isn't too late for you, you can search the vital records indexes online at the British Columbia Archives (http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm).
There are also Crown Land Grants that date back to 1851 that are available on microfilm via ILL, though the Family History Centers may also have these films.

I hope some of this is helpful. Good luck in your search, my dear.
