() Lisa, Thanks for your tips and advice, also the Detroit link. We'll definitely stop at the WISH Centre in Chatham. If time allows we'll consider Amherstburg. Ft. Malden sounds interesting -- but my boys tolerate only so much history. Esp. the Scottish terrier ... and my 10 yr old son. I lived in Detroit growing up also, and did not appreciate it's rich history. I visited last spring and saw a few sites and worked at the Burton Collection. Only wish I'd had more time there. The St. John -St. Luke site in the Detroit article sounds a bit suspect as there wouldn't have been a Church of Christ before the Civil War, and I don't see it listed with Michigan landmarks. But possibly it evolved from another denomination? I know Baptist, AME, Episcopal and Congregational black churches existed there before the war. It's interesting a Congregational church was there early. Do you happen to know if it was a black church from the beginning? Here is a link to the Detroit landmarks site:
