White Surname

My ancestor, Charles White born about 1885 in either Pike or Upson county Georgia has eluded me in all the places I have searched for him. He left GA when 16 years of age, and no one living remembers him coming back , but hearing from an elderly Aunt he came back once. The problem is that so many people has this name. I found one Charles White 44,in Manhattan New York on the 1930 census born GA married, spouse Charolette White born GA age 40. This census reads military yes, and ww so I guess WWl . Then I find death records for Manhattan from 1930 thru 1948 and I can't narrow down the list to see if this person is the one I am looking for. I have searched Military databases but so many and not enough information to make a decent search.
Any advice would be appreciated. His mothers name was Fannie White but this is from the sisters and brother records, I never found them as a family, the 1900 Pike county census he is living as a 14 year old servant in a household.Sisters were Jeanie,Sallie and Annie Mae White, their death records read born Upson county, but they lived and died in Pike County.
