Need help from experienced researchers
If anyone of you have some spare time, please look in to this:
1. Sallie's death certificate states George Britt as her father. I have not been able to find any George Britt in Carroll County Tennessee (there is one but his age does not fit). I did get the name George Britt from Tennessee State Library and Archives. But the death certificate was transcribed (I ordered it in 2005, less than 50 years after the death occurred), I have asked for but not yet received a copy of the original since the death occurred more than fifty years ago.
2. In 1900 census Sallie is living with her mother Alcie Adkisson in Carroll County, TN. She is listed as daughter of her mother's husband Tom Adkisson. Sallie's son Willie Smith is listed as Tom's granddaughter (should be grandson). In 1910 Willie is listed again as grandson to Tom Adkisson.
Here is my question:
From 1880 to 1910 Tom Adkisson is listed througout the census records as being born in Virginia (he passed away in 1915). In 1870 he is listed as Thomas Elkins in the same county, born in Tennessee.
But Sallie throughout the censuses have always listed her father as born in TN. That to me weighs stronger than Tom Adkisson being the father, even though he was in Carroll County at the time of Sallie's birth.
Other research has revealed nothing:
Sallie is listed as Sallie Taylor in 1880, listed as cousin living with the family of Jerry Auterbridge.
In 1870, Sallie is listed as Sallie Hall, living with her mother Alcie Hall in Carroll County, TN.
Would anyone of you assume that George Britt or Tom Adkisson was the father?
If you have questions/need more clarification let me know.
