AfriGeneas Brick Wall Forum

Re: The anthonys in Woodruff Co, ark

Hi m. smith.
Can you tell us more about your the brick wall? Is it that you do not know the burial place for Izena?

Looking at the known, as you stated in your post.
1. Izena Anthony (married name) was born in 1884 and died Nov 27, 1938.

Birth: 1884
a. In 1900, I found an Armstead and Betty Anthony with a 15 year old daughter "Izetta", born in Nov 1884. Are they related?

a. It took some time, but I found your Laura/Louise Tripp. She and Isaac were indexed as TUFF/TRUPP in 1900.
They were both from Georgia; listed children were born in Arkansas, including 15 year old daughter, Arzeum?

Death: Nov 27, 1938
How did you get the date of death?
Do you know WHERE she died?
-- I did not find her listed in an Arkansas Death Index, which helps confirm the lack of an Arkansas death record.

a. Could she have died out of state? Augusta is between Little Rock and Memphis, TN.

b. Where was her family living in 1930? 1940? Could she have gone to live with a relative? child? Did any children move out of state before her death date?

c. Do you know the death date for her husband, John Anthony? Where was he buried?
d. Is it possible she re-married before 1938? I know it may be a slim possibility, but ... if you can rule this one out, it would narrow the possibles.

e. Finally, you probably have to look at the funeral homes (and cemeteries) in the area.

Funeral Homes:
They placed a small funeral home marker on many gravesites.
a. What funeral homes were near the suspected place of death?
b. What funeral homes existed in the 1930's? If there were no local funeral homes, which were in the nearest community?
c. Which funeral home(s) handled the services for relatives.

Cemeteries:
Although you may not be able to find her burial site, some cemeteries have records of their plot sales and burials.
They may also know which funeral homes handled burials during the 1930's.
a. What cemeteries were used by relatives? Where was her husband buried?
b. What was her religous affiliation - and did her church have a (private) cemetery?
