Wow, I knew you could find something for me. :-)

I never looked at James and family in 1900. You may be on to something. James may be his middle name. James runs through the Nance family throughout the generations. You're right, it does look like Julie. I had already seen his daughter Celia/Selia working as a servant in 1900.

I will have to pass this along to my cousin and we will look into this further. I will go back to cemetery records now to see if I see a James. I never found an Allen.

We had also ventured into Selia being a slave. We found some records in VA that had a slave named George and Selia Nance, but there is no records taking Selia or the children's father back to VA.

Thank you so much for the info and I can't wait to dig into it further. I think I see a little bit of light now. One day when I retire and start my genealogy business, I will look you up. :-)
