Rebecca Lipscomb, Cumberland Co, VA
In Response To: Re: Rebecca Lipscomb, Cumberland Co, VA ()
Hollis, Your message is exciting. To summarize, yes, I have checked all the possibilities you mentioned. If you have helped with Cumberland Lipscomb research, you know what's out there. There's a lot. Except for poor Rebecca! This morning I am starting to review the Cumberland land tax microfilms. According to the LVA, one can trace ownership of particular plots of land using these records. Since I haven't seen them, I don't know how helpful they will be. Your friend is apparently a descendant of Sally. (Incidentally, I thought I had charted almost the entire family, but I didn't know they had intermarried.) I am a descendant of Polly. My great-grandfather was George, one of Margaret's sons. I am very, very interested in talking with your friend, either electronically or in person. I am planning to visit Cumberland again (I've been there several times) as soon as it warms up a bit. I'm in Falls Church, Virginia, just outside D.C. As you can imagine, I would like very much to meet more Lipscombs, particularly if they have "lots of oral history." I have been in touch with several people connected to the Lipscombs of CC by e-mail. Maybe your friend would be interested in a reunion of some sort. If you or she will e-mail me, I'll be glad to provide my telephone number and/or address. At a minimum, I'd love to compare information because I have a few "holes." My e-mail address is oakst@erols.com. Thank you very much for your message and please stay in touch. --Sally Phillips |
